Belated ode to men for women's day

I am sure most of you are tired of the women's day messages by now. For me, another multi-tasking pic would drive me to fury... really, I think we should STOP romanticizing this concept of women doing it all.

My primary question is why should we do it ALL? I liked how the pepsico CEO said it (in my own words!), there is no balance, it just does not exist. You cannot have it all. It is the hard truth and it would be better for people to just accept the fact and move on!

For a generation before me, women did try to do it all and I am talking about the so-called housewives as well. My mom used to run the family, and not just the kitchen though she would vehemently deny it.

Talking for myself, and our small family of 4 (Including Goldy, 5) I staunchly believe in sharing chores or rather delegating as my husband would call it. I totally don't mind a badly done clean up job, if it gives me some rest and others an opportunity to learn. I keep hearing this from all my well-intentioned female relatives, you let your kids and husband into the kitchen - there would be a lot more to clean up! And my clear answer is, "I don't mind". I am into ensuring my kids can fend for themselves, husband can cook for me and them when need arises (let me rephrase that, when there is no need as well :)

I strongly believe every human being needs to have some basic knowledge of cooking, and practice is regularly (it makes one perfect). Everyone with the sole exception of Goldy, in my family is expected to be in the kitchen contributing in their own way to the meal of the day. My son is 11 and is an expert is peeling garlic, while my 7 year old daughter is just a pleasure to have around as she constantly talks while fetching me water or items from the fridge.

I digress, the purpose of this post is to talk about the credit that is due to the men in our lives! Starting from my father, who used to plan the next day's menu, shop, clean and cut veggies for my mom, and still cooks for my children; to my brother whose culinary talents are wasted in our house and my husband who wants to be an expert in cooking and getting there :).. in fact, growing up and even now my brother always did more chores than me at home!

Men in my life have made a huge impression not just in the kitchen. The unflinching support provided by close family men shines in every decision and to an extent in every action and word of mine.

Here is the cheer to all male family, friends, colleagues (Some of my best managers/ mentors were men!), and acquaintances which made me what I am!
